Are you using the latest Windows driver? Older drivers dropped notes quite
frequently. The new ones in gus0038.zip are much better in this regard.

There is a MIDI FAQ around somewhere (don't know if it is on any FTP
sites), of which I wrote the MIDI Mapper bit - but it sounds like you
know all about MIDI Mapper anyway.
I don't remember a File/Merge function either. It seems to be a fairly
serious omission, because as you say, there is apparently no way of
combining two complicated setups into the same file without completely
keying in one of them again. If anyone knows how to do this, or know
the format of midimap.cfg so we could write a quick program to do it,
then let us know...

Win Mod Pro seems to support Oktalyzer mods. I think it is called
wmp004b.zip in archive places. Sound quality is not the best possible,
but if you set sample playback rate to something like 18000, you get
better high tones. I suggest you don't run other applications at the same
time because wmp seems to take a lot of time from cpu.

What kind of music do you have in mind? I personally think that both Mod
and Midi are nearly similar if you know what you are doing. Fe. with
Cakewalk Pro 2.0 your work doesn't really differ so much from working
with tracker since you can copy notes where ever you want and even draw
effects with mouse (fe. pitch bend wheel data). I sometimes find trackers
more confusing (due to layout) but there are also really bad sequencers.
There is not much difference in sound quality any more since there are
16 bit trackers available (Farandole and UltraTracker). But if you have a
good synth keyboard and want to use it's sound, then Midi is better. If
you have a bad synth keyboard you might want to sample some of it's
sounds and use them in both midi files and in trakers.
> 4) Are there any trackers that use GUS-patches?
Not that I know, but with some trackers it very easy to convert fe. waves
to tracker sounds.

This is what I'm looking for also! Anyone want to make one?
